In order to use prepaid credit cards you will have to deposit money into your account and it works just like your checking account, as long as you have a balance in your account you can use your card in any store to buy the things you want or need. You can use your card to shop online where the only way you can shop is with some form of credit card to pay for your purchases.

For parents who are sending their kids off to college a prepaid credit card can be the perfect way to teach them how to budget their money. With a regular credit card, mum and dad often end up with a huge monthly bill that can come as quite a shock when their child does not realize that someone has to actually pay for their purchases at the end of the month.

When you are looking at the variety of prepaid Visa cards you need to make sure that you fully understand the terms and conditions set forth by the issuing company. With some companies any variance from the rules can result in large financial penalties or the loss of card use privileges. One of the best things about these cards is that there is never a credit check as the issuer is not lending you any money.

With prepaid debit cards you are never going to have to pay any interest since you are spending your own money. There may however be some form of service charge or monthly maintenance fee to cover the costs of using your account, but if you shop around you should be able to find a card with minimal charges. If you get you prepaid credit cards from the bank you normally do business with, chances are very good that you will not have to pay any fees as it will be tied directly to your bank account.

For someone who has either had credit problems in the past or is just starting out many credit card companies offer secured credit cards. Similar to the prepaid cards in that you have to have a deposit on file these cards will actually help to establish your credit rating. While you may have to have a deposit on file the issuing company will give you a line of credit that is more than you have on deposit. They are taking the risk that because you have some of your own money on deposit you will be responsible and pay your bill.

Prepaid credit cards are a great way to let you spend your money in a responsible, controlled manner anywhere you need to shop. By not allowing you to spend more money than you actually have there is never a risk of going so far into debt that you cannot pay your bills.
