Is A Financial Reward Credit Card Really a Good
Deal?

|
Everyone is looking for the best deal in credit cards these days and perhaps overall the best
deal is the financial reward credit card. While credit cards that offer frequent flyer miles and discount hotel
rooms can be perfect for the person who spends a lot of time travelling they offer nothing for the average person
who goes on vacation once a year.
The idea behind the financial reward credit card is that you earn a reward in the form of cash
back or a rebate for every dollar that you spend. It is usually based on a percentage of your monthly spending so
the more you spend the more you are going to see in the form of a rebate at the end of the month. Often these cards
offer other benefits and rewards such as discounts at certain merchants or hotels to get you to sign up.
In order to qualify for a financial reward credit card you are going to need to have fairly good
credit. While there are credit card programs available for those with less than perfect credit the costs often
outweigh the advantages of the cash back programs unless you can afford to pay them off every month and even then
the fees can quickly eat up any rewards you might earn.
Of course you can always look at the financial reward credit card from the viewpoint that any
kind of reward might be better than nothing. Just a few years ago the only advantage to using a credit card, was
that you did not have to pay for your purchases up front. At least now you are getting some form of reward no
matter how small or large just for using the same credit card you were using a few years back.
There are many ways companies that issue a financial reward credit card use to try and entice
you to switch credit card companies. The most common one is to vary the way that you can earn points toward getting
a financial reward. Often this can include large bonuses for transferring balances such as double points along with
zero interest for 6 to 12 months on the transferred balance.
However there is usually a limit on the number of points that you can earn in a 12 month period
so make sure that you take a close look at the different offers to see who is going to give the most points in a
year. Also for those cards that also offer a reward points program be aware that many of the programs require you
to use your points within a certain time frame, so make sure you know what this time frame is and use your point
rather than lose them.
As with any credit card make sure that read and fully understand all of the terms, conditions
and fees involved before you sign up for and start using them. Many of today’s credit cards are now charging high
fees for over limits and late payments along with high annual and maintenance fees. You should think carefully to
make sure that the fees do not end up costing you more than the rewards are paying you.
